Table talkers
How do you start a conversation about sexual harassment?
It’s not always easy to talk about sexual harassment – but it’s vital that we have these conversations to make sure women and girls can feel safe and thrive. Our new table talkers can help.
Some people think that cat-calling or sexist jokes are just a bit of fun but there is no such thing as harmless harassment. The table talkers set out how tolerating and engaging in sexual harassment and sexist banter contribute to a culture that lays the foundation for much worse behaviours.
To challenge these behaviours, we need to talk about them instead of ignoring them or laughing them off. The table talkers provide advice on how to start conversations with people around you. This way, we can learn from each other’s experiences and agree ways to treat each other with respect.
Over the coming weeks, you’ll see table talkers in a variety of venues including libraries, GP practices, council buildings, job centres and businesses. Let's get the conversation going!
If you would like to get a hold of a table talker yourself, you can request one by emailing csp@redbridge.gov.uk.
